Riding Club 30th Anniversary and Prize Giving

We had our annual riding club barbecue on Midsummers day, and a lot of work and preparation went into it. I managed to borrow a pc-projector from the office, but was so busy on the friday evening that I forgot to bring it home. Now we had made arrangements to have two projectors, (in case one broke down), but I received a phone call early saturday afternoon, asking about the Projector. It was not possible to get the other projector, so it was down to me. One guy had put in a lot of work putting pictures together from years gone by, and these were to be dispalyed on one of the walls of the barn. I ended up ringing my Boss and asking him to open the office so I could get the projector, which he ended up doing(Phew).

One of the ladies in our club makes speciality cakes, and I suggested at one committee meeting that she make one, so heres a picture (Nicked from the club website). The detail is amazing (Horseshoes, a saddle, a showjumping fence, and the dressage arena has all the letters in the right place) and pretty much everything on the cake is edible.

I have no problem in giving this a plug, so here is sophisticakes . Main areas of business are North Wicklow/South Dublin, but Mary is prepared to travel if the price is right.

As well as the Barbecue, it was also the prize giving, and this year I managed to win the Intermediate Showjumping League. Heres the picture of the Trophy (which I get to keep for a year) .

Normally we also get a plaque to keep, but they didn't give us one this year. I'll have to bring it up at the next committee meeting. (I have a few plaques from over the years, the one on the left representing one of my best ever achievements when I managed to win an InterClub Dressage League. It was a tight thing between me and another club member, and we ended up having to be split on countback. I ended up winning, because I had won one of the sections of the league.

The combined training league started off on Barbecue day as well. This consists of a Dressage test followed by one round of showjumping. I managed to do a reasonable dressage test and then did a good showjumping round, but unfortunately, we hit the back bar of the double, and it fell. This was probably my fault, as when I ws walking the course, I felt that it was a long one stride, and we basically didn't come in at a high enough rate.

We had the 2nd leg of the combined training this week, and I managed to one of my best ever dressage tests finishing the test with 69%. Its been my ambition for a while to get to 70% and I came so close. Teachai and I also had a clear round in the showjumping- despite him putting in 2 strides in a 1 stride double, meaning we finished in 2nd place overall. In the combined training, we compete against members on all grades, the difference being that your dressage test is marked against your grades level. For the showJumping, you must jump at your showjumping grade.
