I've realised that I'm totally unfit, and that is probably contributing to some of the health issues I have been recently experiencing. I've joined gms before, but you are shown how to use the equipment once, and then pretty much left to your own devices. Then you have to wait to get access to whichever machine you want next.
A new personal training gym has opened up within a 60 sec walk of my house, so I have signed up for 3 sessions a week for 2 months. What I like about this is that it's just you and the instructor. Obviously not having to travel to get there is an added bonus. This does cost a good bit more than a regular gym, but then you're paying for one persons time.
I had my initial assessment on Wednesday and a light workout. There are some serious issues to be addressed, eg way too much of the wrong type of fat, and I'm not aerobically fit enough. I also need to drink more fluids.
Tonight I had my first full session and I am now totally and utterly exhausted. It started off on the treadmill with a 15 minute walk/jog/walk covering over 1Km. Then off to the bicycle (with no seat). I could only manage 10 of the scheduled 15 minutes. This was followed by some knee lifting, some stretching, press-ups and sit-ups.
I actually got a little dizzy towards the end of the session, so had to take it easy at the end. I've been told that the first two weeks will be the worst, but at least I've started and I've scheduled my sessions to be at 8pm on monday, wednesday, and friday nights, so that at least makes it easy to remember.
