I have been playing these over the last few days, mainly with the aim of clearing a bonus. The beauty of these is that even if you finish in 6th place in a 9 seater sit and go, that will at worst get you into the step below your current level.
I have managed to move from step 1, a $3.30 buy in and am now at step 6, a $640 buy in. If you get to step 7, and win it, you get your buy-in to the World series of Poker, plus $2000 spending money and 5 days free accomodation in Las Vegas. Of course, there are termes and conditions, ge You have to wear Full Tilt gear, but still its a good prize.
And if you do manage to win a second step 7 tournament, you get $12000 into your full tilt account.
Of course, there is a downside to this as well. You cannot cash in for tourney dollars or transfer to another player. But from step 3 and above, you can use the step buy-in to buy in to another tournament.
Additionally, as expected, there are far less players playing at the later step levels, meaning you have to wait longer to be able to get a seat.
Below is the structure of the steps tournaments:
Step Buy-in Prize
Step 1 $3.30 Winners advance to Step 2
Step 2 $8.70 Winners advance to Step 3
Step 3 $26 Winners advance to Step 4
Step 4 $75 Winners advance to Step 5
Step 5 $216 Winners advance to Step 6
Step 6 $640 Winners advance to Step 7
Step 7 $2,100 Prizes vary - currently awards $12K Winner's Choice prize packages
